Heathrow Airport expansion may help small businesses

Heathrow Airport has joined forces with Enterprise Nation to assess how small businesses might gain from its expansion.

Although the expansion of Heathrow Airport has not

yet received the formal go-ahead, the organisation is engaging with local firms. Leaflet printing from marketing services can be used in consultative processes. Enterprises from Hayes could have their say about the benefits they might get from an expanded airport. Emma Jones, Enterprise Nation’s founder, said:

“A quarter of all UK exports by value already travel through the airport. It will be interesting to see how an expanded Heathrow could make a real difference at a time when more people than ever before are starting and growing businesses.”

Enterprise Nation has about 65,000 members, many of whom may participate in the consultation. The findings from the process should be released during April. The aim of the activity is to help boost exports going forward.

Heathrow seems likely to get a third runway on the back of the recommendations of the Airports Commission. The work done suggested that potential expansion at Gatwick would be a less productive policy than adding to Heathrow. However, the final decision with regard to the third runway will have to wait until the summer.

The delay in moving forward at Heathrow is based on a political decision. The authorities have argued that environmental concerns should be fully taken into account before any action is taken.
