West London Film Studios (WLFS), whose dynamic Logo Design features the letter W picked out in red, is currently a production base for several critically acclaimed shows for television. From the BBC’s Killing Eve and Horrible Histories, to Amazon’s Good Omens based on a book by authors Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, it is gaining a reputation.
Based on Springfield Road in Hayes, the studios were previously used by The Racing Channel and Sky. However, under owner and entrepreneur Frank Kahlid, who purchased the property in 2005, they have become a creative space for television programmes and features films including the Oscar awarded “The Imitation Game”, which featured actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley.
To answer interest from industry giants such as Netflix and Marvel, Khalid now Plans to increase the scale of his company to cope with larger projects. Commenting on this future expansion, he said:
“We want to make another bigger studio in Hillingdon, hopefully in the next 12 to 15 months - very soon.”
He added that most of the WLFS’s workforce are local, but the productions that come to use the facility also employ locally, from small businesses to caterers, resulting in the entire community in Hayes benefiting from the studios’ presence.
