College near Hayes secures Platinum Award

Uxbridge College, which is near Hayes, has won a Platinum Award from The Reading Agency.

Uxbridge College’s Platinum Award was especially prestigious because no other UK-based institution received it for the period in question. Newsletter printing from Hayes can be used to share positive results throughout the community.

The Information and Learning Resources Manager at Uxbridge College, Shelley Cawley, told FE News:

“I would like to say a very big congratulations and well done to Shajnah and to the students who took part, and to all those staff members who worked so hard to support them. Reading Ahead is a very effective way of motivating students to improve their literacy skills and their reading confidence, and we are very grateful to The Reading Agency for making the initiative possible.”

Shajnah Farook achieved her own prize as a runner-up in a national draw. As a result, she obtained a Kobo e-reader and a certificate. She said that the project had taught her fresh skills and heightened her appreciation of reading.

Genevieve Clarke, a programme manager for Reading Ahead, praised students for their efforts at a special event. Clarke was joined by the writer Marcus Alexander.

Uxbridge College did significantly better in terms of student completion than some of its competitors. Nonetheless, The Manchester College got a Double Gold Award in recognition of the hard work of its students.
