Historic Stockport buildings may be turned into housing

Two buildings of historic significance in Stockport could be set to be converted into a new housing development, with the Plans for this having been submitted to the council for approval.

Property developer Promised Way Ltd is hoping to create this new housing at the railway engine house and roundhouse in Stockport. The engine house has Grade II listed status and the Manchester-based company wants to use the building to create two new flats, with the roundhouse being turned into 52 flats over a total of eight storeys.

These two railway buildings are located close to Stitch Lane, Stockport, and the documents that the developer has submitted to the council state that the housing would be of the highest quality, while ensuring that the historic nature of the buildings is respected during the conversion process.

According to the Manchester Evening News, they go on to say that:

“The proposal will clearly have a beneficial impact on the listed structure given its current poor and neglected condition.”

Should it get the go ahead from the council to create new flats within these buildings, the developer can always look to shops in Stockport that provide brochure printing with colour photographs to help show them off to possible tenants.

The proposed flats to be built in the roundhouse would all be equipped with private gardens or balconies.
