Novo Esthetics Studio opens its doors

There’s a new place to get your nails done in Saskatoon. Novo Esthetics opened in Wallstreet Common, just on the outskirts of Saskatoon’s downtown.

Owner, Vicki Aitken, completed an

esthetics program at Saskatoon’s MC College, before moving to Lloydminster for work. A year later, Aitken felt the itch to return to Saskatoon with the hopes of opening her own business. After touring the space in the Wallstreet Common, she says she fell in love and saw her dreams coming true.

Novo Esthetics doesn’t only provides more than just manicures and pedicures, although Aitken says they are a popular service offering. The studio works with bridal parties and other types of events. Their specialty treatment is body sugaring, which is similar to waxing, but instead uses a paste made from sugar, lemon juice and distilled water. Aitken says it is safer than waxing and it’s not hot, so it’s gentler on the skin.

The opening of a new business, in any industry, requires a lot of preparation, from finding the right space to rent, and hiring and training staff to developing and printing sales and marketing materials to the promotion to potential customers.

As a new business owner, Aitken says she’s learned a lot about not only the business, but also herself. Yet she doesn’t discount the fun she’s having along the way and the joy from helping make people feel beautiful.
