The 2012 Vesna Festival will take place at TCU Place from May 11-12. The festival is two separate events. May 11 will feature a 19 and over “Just 4 Kicks” cabaret which will begin at 7:30 pm. It will be showcasing Ukrainian stand-up comedians and will be followed by a dance. May 12 will be a family festival which will take place from 6-10:30 pm. Tickets for each night cost $30, or $15 for students who are accompanied by an adult. A weekend pass is $50, while children aged 12 and under are admitted free.
The dance on Friday night will cost an extra $20 and a table for eight can be reserved for $350. Semi-formal dress is required and the organizers say specifically “no denim.”
The Vesna Festival will feature a variety of Ukrainian foods, and Café Kyiv will provide tasty dessert and coffees. There will also be Ukrainian dance demonstrations and Ukrainian musical performances. In addition there is the Culture Gallery highlighting Ukrainian art and history, and a boutique that will be selling Ukrainian souvenirs, artwork and music. Saskatoon printing companies have most likely provided poster printing and banner printing services to the organizers of the event in order to make TCU Place look more festive.
The Ukrainian culture is an important part of Canadian history and should be celebrated at every opportunity. Ukrainian settlers helped to develop the West and without them the county would be lacking in many qualities and would not have come so far so fast.
