Vaughans Winterfest goes virtual
The annual winter celebration in Vaughan will go ahead this year, but with a new virtual format designed to deliver popular acts directly to viewers’ homes.
The event will be headlined by pop musician Tyler Shaw, whose 2018 album “Intuition” was nominated for a Juno Award for Best Pop Album. As in past years, Winterfest will feature a variety of acts and attractions, including the Zero Gravity Circus Fire Artists and 10-year-old singer Roberta Battaglia, who came to prominence with her performances on America’s Got Talent.
As usual, there will be ample programming aimed at kids, including YTV’s Duhin & Spencer and Doo Doo the Clown. The mayor and members of the City Council will provide an official welcome at the start of the ceremonies.
A festival favourite, Mad Science will return with a live demonstration of a dramatic experiment. Viewers are encouraged to have baking soda and conditioner or lotion on hand to follow along at home. While a virtual festival means no food trucks and vendors supplying winter treats, Recreation Vaughan will be providing live demonstrations of how to create them at home, including hot chocolate bombs.
Festivals like these, often advertised through tools like flyer printing and local media, can help to bring together community and provide a sense of family adventure, even virtually.
Winterfest 2021 will take place through the City of Vaughan’s website on Sunday, February 7.
