Vaughan residents will soon have a way to charge their electric vehicles while they take some time to relax with a good book.
The new civic centre library plans on installing a set of Level 2 charging stations at its location next to city hall. These can fully juice up an electric car in anywhere from four to six hours. They will be part of a network of hundreds of such stations across Ontario that the provincial government is helping to fund. It has provided $20 million for this purpose. They will be installed in 250 locations, including the two in Vaughan.
The hope is that this will encourage more people to see electric vehicles as a viable option by ensuring that a place where they can be charged is always within reach, thus eliminating “range anxiety”. It will be paired with financial incentives created to help more people select this mode of transport over one that uses a traditional gas or diesel powered engine. Booklet printing can be used to help spread the word to the public about initiatives such as this by letting them know how it works and how they can make full use of it.
Officials plan to have the two stations in Vaughan up and ready when the library holds its grand opening celebration this coming September. It will be located on major McKenzie Drive.
