Vaughan launches annual toy drive
The city of Vaughan has launched its 11th annual toy drive to help support local children, with a slightly different format this year.
The Vaughan Toy Drive will be in support of CP24 and CHUM’s Christmas Wish program, delivering toys and financial assistance to families in need through local charitable organizations and social service agencies. This year will see Vaughan partnering with Samko & Miko Toy Warehouse to allow for online cash donations to immediately be translated into age-appropriate toys. New and unwrapped toys can still be donated, as well as gift cards and cheques.
Over the past decade, Vaughan has given over 103,000 toys and $70,000 in donations to the Christmas Wish program, with support additionally coming from the Mayor’s Spirit of Generosity Fund. The program involves outreach to businesses and schools to encourage donations.
Charitable programs like this are popular during the holiday season, and often use tools like flyer printing to encourage support. Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua has issued a letter to make a direct appeal to the city’s businesses:
The Vaughan Toy Drive launched on November 13 and will run until December 11. Donations can be made online or through drop-off locations at Vaughan community centres, public libraries and fire stations.
