Toronto Fringe to hold digital collective

The Toronto Fringe Festival, one of Southern Ontario’s biggest theatre events, will hold a special virtual event this year, called the “Toronto Fringe Collective”.

The Fringe will consist of four acts, each with a number of performance videos available for viewing over three days. These videos will consist of short films and monologues along with less conventional Forms like magic shows and radio plays. Performances include “The Zoo Story” by the Centre for Indigenous Theatre, “The Crack of Doom!” by Bain & Bernard, and “Babel-o-drome NUGEN 2” by Collectif BUS 1.2.3. The event will wrap up with a live postscript stream.

The Toronto event is one of numerous Fringe festivals all around the world, allowing amateur and experimental theatre groups to take part. Many performances are one-person shows, making a natural transition to a digital stream. Small-scale theatre shows like these often tie together the local community, with supporting efforts like costumes from used clothing shops and flyer printing services from Print shops contributing to each production.

The Toronto Fringe Festival sees visitors and applications from across the Greater Toronto Area, including cities like Mississauga and Vaughan. It was founded in 1989 and in recent years has welcomed over 90,000 patrons and featured over 1,200 artists with each festival.

The Toronto Fringe Collective will stream online from July 1 to 12.
