Mapleglen Residences opens for seniors
A number of government officials have attended a ceremony to mark the opening of a new home for seniors in Vaughan.
Finding affordable housing can be very difficult, especially for a senior on a fixed income, but with the new Mapleglen Residences, some seniors in the city will now have a new place to call home.
Located on Major McKenzie Drive, the facility boasts 68 one bedroom flats and 16 two bedroom units, all specifically catering for older citizens with a low income. Situated near Vaughan City Hall and overlooking Civic Park, residents will be sure to appreciate their close proximity to public transit, parks, and other amenities.
The ceremony was well attended, and printing companies were called upon to produce special banners and flyers for the celebratory event. The Commissioner of Community and Health Services welcomed everyone and noted how proud she was of the co-operation between the different government departments in getting the project off the ground and completed in a timely manner.
The new units have all been designed to be bright and spacious, and the building has been especially planned to meet the needs of those who will live there.
Funding for the project came from federal and provincial levels, as well as from the York region and the City of Vaughan. It is hoped that this will provide an example for the future and that more similar buildings will be made available to Vaughan residents in the years to come.
