Maple Library begins renovations
Vaughan’s Maple Library & Community Centre has closed to the public in order to undergo a series of renovations that will last the rest of the year.
The changes are intended to make the library more accessible and responsive to the community’s needs. A portion of the library space will be converted to allow the area to be used for recreational activities, including a kitchenette to help supply initiatives like after-school programs.
The library will also be adding a new accessible bathroom and updated change rooms in the fitness centre. Changes will also be made to make reading spaces brighter, including an outdoor reading garden. The redesigned library is intended to complement the community centre, which includes a swimming pool and sports grounds.
The project is part of Vaughan’s Active Together Master Plan, which was launched in 2018 to improve community spaces in the city. The city selected ATA Architects to carry out the interior renovation and planning.
The COVID vaccination site located in the attached community centre will continue operations, with regular recreational programs resuming once the clinic finishes. The library will remain closed during renovations, with visitors urged to make use of Vaughan’s three resource libraries. Municipal governments typically use tools like poster printing and local media to alert citizens about renovations and other service disruptions.
The Maple Library closed for renovations on June 23, with the refurbishment expected to last until the end of the year.
