Drone delivery service may be on the way for Vaughan
Residents and businesses in Vaughan may soon find themselves able to make use of the first drone delivery service in the country.
Once it is up and running, the pilot project, which is being developed through the efforts of Toronto’s Drone Delivery Canada (DDC) and the City of Vaughan, will see it being put to use delivering packages that have been sent out by local companies to people living in the surrounding community.
In a press release, a spokesperson for DDC noted that the plan is to develop a fleet of drones that will service the downtown area, dispatching everything from books to parcels and other mail using technology that is friendly to the environment. Assistance in this will be provided by the Vaughan International Commercialization Centre, which helps to get new startups and business ideas off the ground. Flyers can be used to effectively promote new ideas such as this to both company owners and the general public.
The DDC further went on to say that it hopes that the new system will be ready business starting sometime in 2018. New regulations regarding the commercial use of drones are being formulated by Transport Canada, and it is expected that these will be put into place in 2017. The new business would operate following these rules.
