Conservation group holds online events
January may be a time many like to stay inside, but the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) will be holding a series of online seminars and other events to encourage individuals of all ages to engage with the natural world.
The authority aims to promote awareness of and engagement with natural spaces in Toronto and surrounding areas, including Vaughan. The upcoming events are the latest in a series of digital seminars and other presentations that the TRCA has held over the last several months as an alternative to in-person gatherings.
The majority of the webinars are aimed at a family audience of anyone over the age of 6. These include a tutorial on backyard bird feeding during the winter and educational programming called “Winter Wonders” and “Hoot and Howl”. For more experienced gardeners, there will be a webinar on saving and re-using seeds.
In addition to online events, the TRCA is arranging in-person hikes and outings in Southern Ontario. One such event is scheduled to take place this January, as the Newcomer Youth Green Economy Project members will travel to Pickering to explore Duffins Creek and other habitats.
Conservation organizations often use events, alongside tools like brochure printing and webpages, to educate residents about nearby natural habitats and how to preserve them.
The TRCA will be hosting online workshops every Thursday in January, beginning on the 7th. The seminars are broadcast through the GoToWebinar platform, with free registration required.
