Stoney Creek excursion to visit owls at night
Usually only seen at night, owls are mysterious to many, and a Stoney Creek area excursion will pay a nighttime visit to these silent yet powerful hunters.
The Royal Botanical Garden (RBG) offers a variety of programming, and its wintertime Owl Prowl will provide a sneak peek into the owl’s world. Advance registration is required, and the group will meet at the Arboretum on Old Guelph Road before they begin their walk.
The RBG’s resident owls will hopefully be on site for the visit, and the participants will learn more about these birds and the role they play in mythology from all over the world. The guides for the activity will be Jon Hannah and Barb McKean, and it is intended for those who are at least eight years old. Tickets are $18, and a discount is available to members.
Offering an excursion like this is one way an institution can foster interest in local environmental stewardship. Print shops can be counted on to supply identification guides and other materials to help make such an outing even more entertaining and educational for those who take part.
The Royal Botanical Gardens will be hosting its Owl Prowl on February 20th, and an alternative date may be used if the weather is bad. Anyone who would like to register can do so by visiting its website.
