Stoney Creek to host babysitter course

Vari SAFE is preparing to offer a babysitter course for children aged 10 to 14 in Stoney Creek.

The workshop expands on material covered in the Home Alone & Stranger Safety program, though completion of that course is not required. Certified instructors will guide participants through four core areas: preparing to get hired, ensuring the safety of children in their care, heightened first aid and responding to emergencies including cardiopulmonary resuscitation and performing the Heimlich manoeuvre.

Throughout the day, attendees will take part in lessons on interview readiness, age-appropriate caregiving expectations and management strategies. The course also covers identifying common injuries and illnesses, and responding to incidents such as fires or poisoning while remaining calm. The interactive, hands-on structure aims to help young participants become reliable caregivers.

The course also addresses safe food preparation, managing temper tantrums and offering ideas for keeping children engaged in safe, enjoyable activities. Practical skills such as changing diapers, bathing infants and feeding babies are taught through games and simulated scenarios designed to build confidence and competency.

Local printing services can support programs like this by producing clear Booklets that help people review guidelines and procedures at home.

The Optimist Club will host the Vari SAFE Babysitters Course at 890 Queenston Rd, Stoney Creek, on January 18, 2026, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
