Stoney Creek area event to raise awareness about autism inclusiveness

Autism is a condition that can affect an individual’s social, communication and cause developmental delays. It can also affect their ability to process sensory input, and a Stoney Creek area event has been planned to help raise awareness about this issue.

According to the Canadian National Autism Foundation, up to 1 out of every 64 Canadians is

autistic or has a related condition, and it affects all races, age and socioeconomic backgrounds. This is why the organization feels that its Autism Acceptance Walk, Run or Ride is so important.

Members of the public are welcome to sign up to participate in the event as an individual or part of team, and when they do, they will receive a sheet to help them collect pledges. To thank them for their efforts, there will be a prize drawing for a 45 inch RCA television, and everyone who collects at least $50.00 in pledges will have their name entered in the draw. There will also be food, drinks and activities for the kids.

Those who are interested in participating in this event that will both raise funds and support inclusiveness are welcome to run, walk or roll along the course using an assistive device. Banner printing for an occasion such as this can be supplied by a local printer.

September 30th has been chosen as the date for this event. It will be taking place at the Willow Cove pavilion in Hamilton’s Confederation Park.
