Stoney Creek adding to residential dwellings

Two mid-rise residential buildings are slated for construction in Stoney Creek’s lakeshore community, just north of the Queen Elizabeth Way highway.

Before the project was approved, the Urban Hamilton Official Plan was amended by the planning committee to increase the density from 200 to 208.7 units per hectare. These buildings will be part of the Shoreview Place development project. In total, 468 new residential units and 10 townhouses will be added to the area.

The development project will include just under 600 parking spots both above ground and underground for residents.

The council originally required a provision that would hold the approval of the project while evaluating various reports, such as traffic and environmental. However, after several meetings, the council decided to drop them, which should allow the project to come to completion more quickly.

According to councilor Maria Pearson, those reports “have already been done and there was no need to hold up the project”.

The project will benefit the local economy with not only direct employment, but indirect also. Support services, such as printing of Signs for the construction zones and nearby restaurants for workers to take breaks and purchase lunch, also see improved sales in developmental areas.

There are several other development projects in the surrounding area, including Green Millen Shores, which began in 2010, as well as the New Horizon Homes project.
