Battle of Stoney Creek re-enactment

Step back in time and witness the thrills and chills of one of the most important battles in the War of 1812. This year marks the 31st anniversary of re-enactment of the Battle of Stoney Creek, an important victory for the British and a turning point in the defence of Upper Canada.

The battle is part of the City of Hamilton’s bicentennial celebration of the War of 1812, “Pathways to Peace”. Events are being held throughout the western part of the country over the next 18 months to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812, a federal cultural initiative.

The battle will be re-enacted on Saturday, June 2, at 3:30 and 8:30 pm, and on Sunday, June 3, at 2:00 pm at the Battlefield House Museum in Stoney Creek. Other activities include mingling with early 19th century settlers and soldiers, cooking, dancing, blacksmithing, drills, parades, artillery demonstrations and children’s games. A detailed schedule of events is listed on the website, and can be copied and printed at a printing company.

The Battlefield House Museum will be open on June 2, from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, and Sunday, June 3 from 10:00 am to 4:40 pm.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.battlefieldhouse.ca, or at the door. A link to a video produced by Tourism Hamilton of the 29th re-enactment is also on the website.

If you would like to participate as a re-enactor, you can register online before May 7, 2012. Merchants can download an information brochure and have it printed at a printing company.
