Battle of Stoney Creek anniversary to be celebrated

The Battle of Stoney Creek was one of the most decisive and important battles of the War of 1812. Every year, the Battlefield House Museum and Park remembers this historic battle with several events.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Battlefield Monument and special ceremonies are set to take place. In addition, there will be a parade, memorial services and a battlefield cemetery re-dedication.

The main events of the anniversary will take place on Re-enactment Weekend. This will feature a re-enactment of the Battle of Stoney Creek, fireworks, historical demonstrations, tours of the Gage Homestead, period games, plenty of food and merchants selling handmade and unique arts and crafts.

The Battle of Stoney Creek observances are expected to draw many visitors from all over the area. No doubt local printing companies will be helping to advertise the events with Flyers and Posters.

The 100th anniversary of the Battlefield Monument will be recognized with speeches, costumes and music, beginning on Friday at 1:00pm. Tickets are 25 cents.

The parade, memorial services and cemetery re-dedication will also take place on Friday at 7:00pm. Admission is free.

The Re-enactment weekend will take place from June 1-2. Admission for the entire weekend is $10 for adults and $5 for youth; those aged five and under are admitted free.

Those who are looking for more information about any of these events, or about the Battle itself, contact the Battlefield House Museum and Park at 905-662-8458.
