U of O hosts monthly pitch competitions

The University of Ottawa is hosting a monthly competition designed to help local entrepreneurs and innovators hone their pitching skills and with a potentially big reward.

The competition is Accel Pitch III, hosted by Waxdale Ecosystem. Each event sees ten entrepreneurs pitch a business idea related to technology and the internet. Potential businesses should be at the idea or early development stage. The pitches are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each presentation will be evaluated by a panel consisting of Waxdale managers, businesspeople and investors from around Ottawa. The winning idea will receive $1,000 to help turn it into a reality.

Even for those not selected, the event offers an opportunity at honing the important skill of pitching to potential investors, as well as networking with the local tech industry. Each event sees the series of pitches bookended by two half-hour periods for networking. Another run of business card printing at a local printing services can be as valuable preparation for events like these as the pitch itself.

Waxdale Ecosystem describes itself as a service organization that helps start-ups through their development process, including funding and a ‘start-up studio’.

The next edition of Accel Pitch will take place on the afternoon of February 22 at the University of Ottawa. An exact location will be announced by February 8.
