One of Ottawa’s signature events will be back for another year this May, as the Canadian Tulip Festival takes over the city.
The festival is held each year to celebrate Canada’s liberation of Holland during the Second World War, and it sees hundreds of thousands of freshly sprouted tulips on display. Walking tours through the park are held throughout the day with nods to the festival’s history, as well as Tulips at Night tours with lit garden beds and even a Ghosts of the Glebe Walking Tour. Visitors can also take home their own flowers from the Tulip Boutique. Further ways to enjoy the festival include movie screenings amidst the tulips and a nightly sound and light show.
The Tulip Festival will also hold Mini-Markets featuring businesses from the ByWard and Parkdale Markets. Major festivals such as this provide an opportunity for local businesses to attract new customers using special products and Business Cards. There will also be educational programming related to both nature and the festival’s historic legacy.
The Canadian Tulip Festival is the largest such event in the world, and it has seen attendance of over half a million people over the course of the two-week-long event. Admission to the park is free, although some events have a fee.
The 2023 edition of the Canadian Tulip Festival will take place between May 12 and 22 at Commissioner’s Park.
