Ottawa residents will have access to a classic summer fair again as the Capital Fair makes its return to the city this August.
The agricultural fair has been in existence since 1975 and is Ottawa’s answer to events like the Canadian National Exhibition and Pacific National Exhibition, combining a classic agricultural fair with rides, midway games, and live entertainment.
Special attractions will include the Ontario Demolition derby, with old cars smashing and crashing into each other; Hollywoof Animal Actors’ team of “Ultimutt” stunt dogs; and Ottawa’s Capital Blues Day, a one-day concert featuring local artists such as Angelique Francis and Tony D. There will be daily entertainment aimed at children in the Kid’s Big Tent, including the clown-hosted Doo Doo’s Dance Party.
The more educational side of the Capital Fair will highlight the agriculture and animal life of Eastern Ontario. This will include exhibits from the Osgoode Township Museum and Canadian Raptor Conservancy, live wood-carving, and a Rare Breeds Display. Fairs such as this, usually advertised through colourful flyer printing and other local marketing, began as agricultural gatherings, and today are summertime spectacles enjoyed by people who are urban, rural, or anything in between. Discounted admission brackets are available in advance, including at local convenience stores.
The 2022 edition of the Capital Fair is set to take place between August 12 and 21 at the Rideau Carleton Casino grounds.
