Nobody does Canada Day like Ottawa, and Canadian Heritage has announced the full plans for its celebrations this July.
LeBreton Flats Park will serve as the hub for events this year instead of the usual Parliament Hill location, due to renovations to Parliament’s Centre Block. There will be a ceremony during the daytime celebrating all things Canada, as well as important anniversaries. People of all ages can participate in activities including dancing and bracelet making, watch short films that are screened outdoors and enjoy an afternoon flyover by the Royal Canadian Air Force. The evening will include a showcase of Canadian musical artists, including Maestro Fresh Wes, Metric and Sara Dufour.
While LeBreton Flats will be the main hub, there will still be events hosted on Parliament Hill, including aerial performances by the Snowbirds and SkyHawks, as well as traditional Scottish drum and bagpipe performances. Old Hull will host concerts by artists such as Dubmatique and Basia Bulat. There will also be events in Barrhaven, Kanata, the National Arts Centre and other locations. Festive events such as this can be seen throughout the city with flyer printing and local media advertising helping to raise awareness.
The 2024 Canada Day celebrations will conclude with a massive fireworks show above the skies of Ottawa at approximately 10 pm. All events are free to attend, and will air live on CBC and ICI.
