Ottawas running of the beds approaches

This February, businesses, organizations and even groups of friends will be participating in a race that will see some unusual vehicles take to a 50 meter long course, all in support of their local community.

The Ottawa chapter of the Kiwanis club, which is one part of an international service organization, has made plans for its annual Bed Race fundraiser and it promises to offer lots of fun and laughter for everyone who participates. Each participating group is welcome to be creative in designing the decorations for their entry.

The event will start with the Parade of Beds. This will give all the contestants a chance to show off their design and decor skills. After this, groups of five beds will head to the start line with a goal of being the first to push their bed across the finish line, which will be 50 meters away. The course will take them across ice and is all in good fun.

The event is expected to attract as many as 50 teams for the race, which has been held for the past 38 years. Monies raised will be used by the Kiwanis Club to fund projects such as its annual music festival, reading programs and other initiatives. Banner printing is often used by organizers of events such as this.

The event, which will bring new meaning to the term ‘rollaway bed’, has been planned for February 16th. It will be organized on York Street and The Kiwanis website can be consulted for more information.
