An organization that looks to promote gender equality in the technology field will be holding a digital event aiming to connect experts with employers in Ottawa.
WomenHack is a hiring and networking organization that holds events all around the world. Its event format promises the opportunity to meet with 20 employers in two hours, and it uses a rapid rotation format, meaning that each attendee has a one-on-one “speed interview” with an employer for five minutes before moving on to the next.
The digital event will also feature a live-streamed “stage” at the start of the event, along with sponsored sessions by companies. To ensure there is enough one-on-one time, the company’s events are invitation-only.
The events aim to attract women in a variety of tech-related professions, including developers, designers and product managers. WomenHack typically holds in-person events, with Business Cards and resumes changing hands, but the rise of virtual events has allowed it to target distant areas simultaneously – the weekend of the Ottawa event will also see WomenHack events in Paris, Mumbai and Sacramento.
The event could make an impact on Ottawa’s growing technology sector, which includes federal government agencies, as well as private companies like Shopify. A list of employers will be distributed before the event.
The Ottawa edition of WomenHack will take place online on March 24.
