Ottawa provides holiday drive-through experience

An Ottawa holiday light show has adopted a new format to suit the circumstances of this year, offering households a drive-through light extravaganza.

The display, called “Magic of Lights”, features an array of electric lights, including a lengthy illuminated tunnel. The display involves the latest in digital animated displays and LED lights, invoking scenes and characters from the holiday season.

The attraction is designed for a car of people from the same household or social bubble, with tickets sold by the car. Proceeds from the drive will benefit the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Foundation (CHEO), providing care to children in need and research into childhood illnesses. This is the fifth year of Magic of Lights, but the first of its current format.

Magic of Lights has been a hit so far, leading to it to urge visitors to attend on weekday nights to avoid crowds. The attraction has also partnered with Real LaPage for giveaways and promotion, with the realtors donating an additional $1 to CHEO for each visitor.

This holiday season has seen a number of traditional activities and events adapt to the age of social distancing, with drive-through and livestreamed events proving popular. These events are often promoted using tools like banner printing and digital advertisements.

Magic of Lights launched on November 13 and will be open until January 9. It is located at Ottawa’s Wesley Clover Park.
