Ottawa fest to celebrate poutine

One of the National Capital Region’s favourite treats will be in the spotlight this spring, as the Ottawa Poutine Fest returns to the city.

The festival focuses on the many different varieties of the signature French-Canadian dish. The event will transform Ottawa City Hall into “poutine plaza”, with over a hundred variations on the classic combination of French fries, gravy, and cheese curds, many incorporating different food influences from around the world. There will be competitions, with prizes awarded for the Best in Cheese Curd, the best exotic poutine, and more. The festival will also feature live entertainment, including music by local artists, and the Poutine Sample Social designed to help make new friends while sampling different poutine varieties.

Performers announced for the festival include Scott Reeves, Trip the Breaker, and The Chillin’ Flamingo. There will also be a craft beer garden open in the festival area with a variety of brews available. Admission to the Festival is free, although attendees are encouraged to donate to the Ottawa Food Bank, with donors entered into a draw to win free poutine for a year. Food-based festivals such as this provide an opportunity for small local restaurants and vendors to attract new customers, and can often provide Business Cards or Menus along with sample food.

The 2023 edition of Ottawa Poutine Fest will take place between April 27 and 30 at Ottawa City Hall.
