Ottawa’s Regeneration Canada group will be having its final “field-to-fork” event of 2023, with a full-day farm tour and dinner under the title “Stories of Regeneration.”
The event aims to promote awareness about ecological sustainability and regenerative agriculture, as well as highlight local produce. It will kick off with a presentation open to the public featuring Antonious Petro, executive director of Regeneration Canada, and soil health educator Joel Williams, on subjects including community gardening and farming. Participants will have a chance to sample products and see the facilities of local growers Urban Fresh Produce and Chi Garden. The day will conclude with a vegetarian meal cooked by Baccanalle chef Resa Solomon-St. Lewis, incorporating locally grown ingredients.
Stories of Regeneration will be hosted on Just Food Community Farm, a 150-acre farm in urban Ottawa, which is home to a number of small-scale farming efforts. The farm will also be hosting a Farm Festival event during the early afternoon featuring music and exhibitors, and attendees are invited to wander the festival and tour the farm. Festivals such as this often help local farmers and artisans reach a new audience, using Business Cards and social media handles to make permanent connections. Visitors are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles and covered shoes, and otherwise be ready for the elements.
