Artists from the nation’s capital will join those from Montreal, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia in a virtual art show inspired by recent events.
Isolation 2020 is a limited-time virtual art show inspired by the age of social distancing. Ottawa’s representatives are painter and sculptor Christopher Griffin, portrait artist Emmet Woulfe, and abstract visual artist Joejene Santos.
They will be joined by eight other visual artists, each of whom will have three recent works for sale through the website. Each artist will give 25% of the proceeds from their sales to a local charity, with the Ottawa artists benefiting the Parkdale Food Centre. Works sold include “The Night Time” by Griffin, “Tall Party” by Woulfe, and “Love Life” by Santos, with some fetching considerable sums.
The exhibition kicked off with a virtual event-opening reception over Zoom. The unique circumstances allowed each of the artists to give viewers a tour of their studios and an idea of their creative process. Art shows like these, often constructed around a theme and advertised through poster printing campaigns, can be crucial in allowing artists to network, perhaps passing out creatively-designed Business Cards, and keep up in the latest trends and advances in fields like painting, graphic design and sculpture.
