Ottawa Art Gallery to hold auction fundraiser

This month, the Ottawa Art Gallery will hold its biggest annual fundraising event, known as ‘Le Party’.

The event is both an elegant cocktail party and a silent auction, with over 65 works by regional artists up for bid. Past editions of the auction have attracted hundreds of guests and raised thousands for the gallery, which focuses on local and regional art.

The event will feature cocktails and hors d’ouevres from what the gallery describes as “Ottawa’s top culinary artists.” The works on display and for auction will likely reflect the diversity of contemporary visual art, ranging from traditional Forms like painting and sculpture to modern techniques such as graphic design, film installations and digital experiments. In addition to acquisitions and the upkeep of the gallery, the money raised will go towards tours, educational programs and events.

The 2019 edition of ‘Le Party’ will take place on May 30 at the gallery’s downtown location, near the Mackenzie King Bridge. Those who spring for an ‘Art Lovers’ ticket will be able to attend a special early reception and have the option to buy auction items immediately.

Some of the more unconventional items on offer include a eucalyptus necklace by Chayle Cook, a text work by Julia Martin, and a photograph of the lower jaw of a gray squirrel by Justin Wonnacott.
