There will soon be bright colours in the sky over Ottawa and the greater National Capital Region as the Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival returns this September.
The annual event, also known as FMG for the French name “Festival des Montgolfieresde Gatineau”, is known for having a diverse line-up of entertainment in addition to offering a chance to take to the air in a classic balloon. The musical programming is headlined by Grammy-winning artist Wyclef Jean and will include Francophone artists like Les Trois Accords and Roch Voisine, as well as special “Musical Matinees” taking place early in the day.
There will also be a comedy gala including performers like Laurent Paquin and Mona de Grenoble. The festival grounds will include family-oriented events and activities, including the Beauce Carnival amusement park, complete with rides and midway games.
The main attraction is the launching of hot air balloons of all sizes and colours. Visitors can take a ride of their own or enjoy spectating lit-up night time flights and fireworks displays. Festivals such as these are popular summer attractions, typically advertised through tools such as flyer printing and local radio. The Gatineau festival typically draws in attendees from Ottawa, Orleans and throughout the National Capital Region.
The 2022 edition of the Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival will take place between September 1 and 5 at Parc de la Baie.
