The new store spreads across almost 19,000 square feet and offers discount goods ranging from clothing to kitchenware, aiming to provide a wide range of items to families at accessible prices. The official opening was marked with a ribbon-cutting event that included visits from a balloon artist, Santa Claus, and the company’s mascot, Friendly the Giant Tiger. Early customers received gift cards and papier mâché items. The chain is based out of Ottawa and has over 260 stores across Canada, with stores also under the GTExpress and Scott’s Discount brands in Ontario.
The Giant Tiger chain has said it will contribute to local charities and give back to the Vaughan community, including a donation to Hats on Awareness and raising money for the Vaughan Food Bank. New stores often use items such as flyer printing and special sales to help build up a regular customer base. Store manager Simone Matthews expressed hopes that the store would be a hit in the Vaughan market:
“We are thrilled to open our doors and introduce the community to the newest Giant Tiger store and a shopping experience that our customers love.”
Giant Tiger’s Vaughan location is located on Colossus Drive and is open seven days a week.
