One of the national capital's biggest musical events will return to Lansdowne this September. CityFolk will offer four days of live music in the midst of downtown Ottawa.
Despite the name, CityFolk offers a variety of musical styles, although always with an eye to the alternative. This year's headliner will be former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant with his new backing group the Sensational Space Shifters.
Other well-known artists include Canadian grunge-rock favourites Our Lady Peace and R&B star Leon Bridges. More intrepid concertgoers can enjoy unique acts like spoken-word artist Saul Williams, soulful country singer Lucinda Williams, and Lee Harvey Osmond, the latest project of southern Ontario rock legend Tom Wilson.
Formerly known as the Ottawa Folk Festival, CityFolk is a local musical institution and an unofficial end-of-summer party. In addition to the main festival, it will be sponsoring over 70 free performances across the Glebe area. Music festivals have grown in popularity as a less expensive way to see a variety of top artists. Such festivals often use poster printing and flyer printing to advertise, along with the all-important word of mouth.
The 2019 edition of CityFolk will take place from September 12 to 15 at Lansdowne Park. The area, located next to the TD Place stadium, includes both indoor and outdoor stages, which comes in handy in a city with weather as temperamental as Ottawa.
