Long-time Canadian rocker Bruce Cockburn will be visiting Ottawa for a concert this April to commemorate a special occasion.
The concert is part of a tour celebrating the 50th anniversary of the release of Cockburn’s self-titled debut album in 1970, with a few years’ delay. Cockburn will perform songs from each decade he has been an active musician in, from the 1960s to the present day. Fans from Ottawa and the surrounding capital region will be looking forward to hearing some of Cockburn’s influential and popular songs live, such as “Lovers in a Dangerous Time” and “A Dream Like Mine”. The artist is noted for combining the folk and rock genres and for lyrics that touch on political and philosophical themes.
The 50th anniversary tour will take Cockburn across North America. The tour kicked off on February 24 with a live-streamed performance from Higher Ground in Vermont and includes eight dates in Ontario.
Concert tours like this, often promoted through flyer printing and local radio, allow music fans to see long-time favourites even after they have faded from the charts. The tour is also an opportunity to demonstrate how influential Cockburn has been on Canadian music, having released over 30 albums and having had his songs covered by everyone from the Barenaked Ladies to k. d. lang.
Bruce Cockburn will perform at Ottawa’s National Arts Centre on April 23.
