The Ottawa-area Canadian Museum of History will be opening its doors again this June, inviting visitors to a new “Queens of Egypt” exhibit.
Queens of Egypt features more than 300 items from the height of ancient Egyptian culture over three millennia ago. The items will include statues, sarcophagi and jewellery used by famous queens like Ahmose-Nefertari, Hatshepsut and Nefertiti.
The exhibit is in association with the Museo Egizio in Turin, with many items on loan from the Egizio’s expansive collection of Egyptian antiques. The era will be further showcased in a film called “Mummies – Secrets of the Pharaohs” at the museum’s cinema. The museum’s permanent collections, including the Grand Hall, First Peoples Hall and Canadian Stamp Collection, will also be open to visitors.
Visitors to the museum will buy time-limited tickets to ensure that there are no more than 50 attendees at a time. Tickets will be free on Thursday evenings. The interactive Children’s Museum and food service locations will remain closed for the time being.
Special exhibitions like Queens of Egypt, often advertised through colourful banner printing campaigns and local media promotions, are a major part of museums’ business models. The Museum of History will also be promoting the exhibit through virtual live-stream events and online activities for children.
Queens of Egypt will open along with the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau on June 2.
