Director Kevin Smith will be visiting the Ottawa area this October as part of a roadshow tour of his new film Clerks III.
The event, designed in the style of old-school movie roadshows, will feature a screening of Clerks III and a question-and-answer session with Smith afterwards. The movie is the second sequel to Smith’s 1994 debut film Clerks, a profane workplace comedy whose widespread success was part of a breakout minute for American independent cinema, and features the return of Brian O’Halloran as the character Dante Hicks and Jeff Anderson as Randal Graves. The plot concerns Hicks and Graves filming a movie in the convenience store that they now own in a meta-textual take on the first movie, and features several major Hollywood names in cameo roles.
Following the movie screening, visitors will be able to question Smith about the new movie, as well as all aspects of his three-decade career, which includes directing over a dozen future films, alongside working in television, on podcasts and with comic Books. There will also be an open bar and food available. The Ottawa event is part of Smith’s Convenience Tour, which will see screenings of the movie and Q& question-and-answer sessions in dozens of cities across North America, although Ottawa is just one of two stops in Ontario.
Creator question-and-answer sessions are one way in which smaller theatres encourage people to come into the cinema, alongside tools like Promotional Products and special film restorations.
The Ottawa stop of Clerks III: The Convenience Tour will take place on October 13 at Algonquin Commons Theatre on the Ottawa campus of Algonquin College.
