Errington’s council of about 30 students organized the ‘We Bake for Change’ sale. The youngsters were inspired by a recent event in Vancouver called ‘We Day’, which is a movement that brings well-known speakers and entertainers to motivate youth in making positive social change around the world, according to sources.
Students will also have the opportunity to extend their charity work by entering the ‘Baking a Difference’ Awards. They can enter by taking a picture of their charity bake sale and adding a write-up to explain why the event was valuable to them. They can then enter online for a chance to win $5,000, which will then be donated to the ‘Adopt a Village’ country of their choice.
Adopt a Village is a program offered through Free the Children, an international charity that works with We Day and other organizations to help communities break free from poverty, according to sources.
Hedy Fu, from Errington, is one of the organizers ready for the charity bake sale, commenting:
“We can buy or make the cakes and bring them into the school on Friday.”
Students can make use of poster printing to help get the word out into the community about charity bake sales like this one.
