Salmon festival to return to Richmond next week

The annual Steveston Salmon Festival is returning to Richmond for Canada Day. The free event is expected to draw at least 70,000 visitors to the area.

The festival will start off with a pancake breakfast and will be followed by a children's bicycle parade and a Canada Day celebration. After the parade, the opening ceremonies will take place; these will include speeches by local dignitaries, musical and dance performances and the singing of ‘O Canada’.

There will be plenty of activities on offer during the festival, including a Japanese cultural show, martial arts demonstrations and a children's festival. There will also be shopping opportunities at the craft fair and the food fair. During the day, there will also be a Youth Rock Fest, a horticultural festival and an art show.

The main draw of the event, though, will most likely be the salmon barbecue; one of the reasons for the festival. There will definitely be something at the Steveston Salmon Festival to appeal to everyone in the family, regardless of their age.

The festival will also provide opportunities for businesses and community organizations. A trade show will allow local businesses to showcase their products and services and community organizations will be setting up information booths. No doubt many of them will be working with Richmond printing companies to provide informative literature.

The Steveston Salmon Festival will take place at the town’s Community Center on July 1 beginning at 6:30am. For more information, call 604-238-8094.
