Richmond workshop to show importance of being prepared

When it comes to times of emergency, an informed community can be a well-prepared community, and a Richmond workshop will help to make this theory a reality.

Several members of staff from the city's Emergency Programs will be facilitating programming offered through the Richmond Resilient Communities Program, and it is free for area residents to sit in on the presentation. The information provided will be specific to the area, and it will be an adults only event.

The assembled group will learn about the potential hazards that exist in their community, and they will also find out how they can organize a basic emergency plan for their family. The ‘Richmond BC Alert’ system and other systems for emergency notification will be reviewed, and the participants will also engage in the development of emergency response plans and maps for their neighbourhood.

This workshop is scheduled to run for two hours, and is accessible for those with mobility or other challenges. Brochures and other items from a brochure printing company can be compiled into “preparedness packs” that can be given to each person who participates in an seminar like this.

This opportunity for locals to face an emergency fully prepared will be offered on May 8. It will be held in the Brighouse Branch of the Richmond Public Library.
