Richmond workshop to explore uses of stinging nettles

Stinging nettle plants include both native and non-native subspecies in British Columbia, and these useful herbaceous perennials will be introduced to those who take part in a Richmond workshop.

Nettles, which are well known for producing skin irritation, are a food source that offers a variety of nutritional benefits, and these will be on the table for discussion during the Stinging Nettle instalment of the Rooftop Garden series. It will be taking place at the Richmond Cultural Centre, and Kymberlee Stogan will be sharing her knowledge of these plants.

The attendees in the class will learn about the various uses of nettles, and tips for cultivating the plants in the home garden will be shared. Harvesting the stems, leaves and other parts safely will be reviewed, and everyone will be invited to sample some nettle tea and take a rooted plant home with them. There is enough space for 20 learners, and it is for those aged 18 and up.

A workshop may pack a lot of information into a small amount of time, leaving the students eager to learn more. Handouts for such a workshop can be prepared by Stationery printers.

This hands-on introduction to nettles and their uses is scheduled for June 23rd. It will begin at 1:30 pm. Tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased via Eventbrite.
