The City of Richmond is growing, and with that increase in traffic has come the development of new transit stations, including Capstan Station, which was built with both functionality and artistic artwork in mind.
Built between Bridgeport and Aberdeen stations, Capstan Station was built to fill this growing region of Richmond. Safe and efficient transport was needed for the region's 16,000 residents, and local artwork was incorporated into the decor. The artwork was completed by local artists and represented their efforts to answer the question of "How can transportation build community?" in their pieces. One example of the work on display is The Breath Below by Howie Tsui. This impressive piece measures 3600 square feet and aims to document the unique aquatic life that lives in the Fraser River.
There are occasions when walking tours of art will employ use brochure printing services to help deliver images and written detail about the artwork. Printouts like these can prove useful if a tour takes place in a setting like a train station, where noise may at times prevent good hearing.
The next 2025 Capstan Village Public Art Walking Tour will take place on August 9th from 10:30 am until 12:00 pm; more information is on the event website. Tours will start at the Capstan Station entrance.
