Richmond SPCA has Halloween advice

The Richmond Education and Adoption Centre branch of the SPCA has some tips for pet owners this Halloween. Sadly, there are those who will mistreat pets, especially black cats, on Halloween; there are countless stories of pets being hurt or even killed during the holiday. The centre suggests the following tips; keep your pets indoors for the entire day and night; do not give your pets chocolate or candy, as it can be poisonous to them; do not dress up your pets in costumes, they can be hurt if it gets caught in something; make sure that if your pet is afraid of loud noises that you be there to soothe him or her.

The Richmond Education and Adoption Centre not only have animals available for adoption but it always has lots of advice for pet owners no matter what time of year it is. Local brochure printers have provided them with such literature as the Bite Free Brochure and Every Kid's Pet Care Guide which are available for purchase. In addition, they also sell note cards, hoodies, pet clothing, stickers and a municipal animal control bylaws manual. All of this goes towards supporting the goals of the organization.

If you read the news you might notice that there seem to be more news stories about animal cruelty lately. While many of these acts are senseless violence, some of them stem from ignorance. Organizations such as the SPCA try to educate people on the best ways to care for their animals.
