The Minoru Sports Pavilion will be celebrating its 50th anniversary next week, but will also be closing to make room for a new aquatic and older adults’ center.
Organizers are currently looking for people who have pleasant memories of using the facility who are willing to tell their stories. This will take the form of demonstrations, presentations, and even live performances. They are also collecting artifacts, photographs, and written histories.
The new center, which is slated to open in the fall of 2017, is expected to measure in at over 109,000 square feet and will be a multipurpose facility. The final plans have not been set and civic leaders will be touring the Edmonds Community Centre in nearby Burnaby to see how that facility provides for the public and what they can learn.
In order to display some of the memories people have of the Minoru Sports Pavilion, organizers might invest in Banners, Signs, and other products from Richmond Print companies as they seek to bring in more attention.
The celebration of bidding of farewell will take place on July 5 from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. Admission is free and it is likely light refreshments will be served.
