Over the years, the horticultural industry has developed many cultivars of fruits and vegetables, and while these may be useful for the mass production of agricultural commodities, they may not so great when it comes to genetic diversity. A Richmond program can make a difference, and an information session has been planned for those who want to find out more.
The Richmond Food Security Society works to preserve heritage species and ensure that the genetic diversity of the food crop is maintained. This is accomplished through a variety of methods including maintaining a seed library, and this event will provide more details about its efforts.
The organization is seeking members of the public who would like to lend a hand, and it will soon be hosting a session that will explain why seed saving can be so important. Attendees will also find out about what a seed librarian is and what they do, and they will even be walked through a typical seed library session.
When training volunteers to help out with this sort of project, it can be helpful to supply them each with a binder filled with information that can be useful to them. A printing services company can provide these as well as many different types of marketing materials that can help a not-for-profit group get its message to the public.
The Richmond Food Security Office has scheduled this function for March 7th. It will be offered at 7611 Ash Street.
