Those curious about the inner workings of the Engineering and Public Works Department can celebrate the annual National Public Works Week with the city of Richmond and discover how these departments operate.
The annual Public Works Open House is designed to showcase the work Richmond's Engineering and Public Works operation staff provide while maintaining the city's infrastructure and how they contribute to ensuring the safety and health of the community while inspiring future generations.
This hands-on event allows attendees to participate in a wide range of activities to gain hands-on experience in the work involved in the Engineering and Public Works department. Visitors will be able to learn more about all twelve areas of public works the department offers, including flood protection, water services, sanitary sewers, rods and construction services, engineering, environmental programs, fleet operations, emergency services and parks, recreation and culture. There will be a wide range of interactive and educational displays, the opportunity to learn the basics of planting, and heavy equipment such as dump trucks, graders and backhoes. There will also be a Lafarge Kidcrete participation station and an unstructured play area for children. The open house will also have live music and entertainment and the option to purchase snacks or lunch from local food trucks.
Often, educational events will use flyer printing for their different stations to provide additional information for attendees about what is being showcased and where they can find it.
The Richmond Public Works Open House will be held on May 10 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 5599 Lynas Lane, Richmond. Additional information can be found on the City of Richmond's website.
