The next federal election is set for October 19 so politicians across the country are making sure their constituencies understand what each of them stands for. Local events in Richmond will allow citizens to interact with candidates in their ridings and learn about their stances on different issues.
On September 30, the Richmond Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Richmond News, held an all-candidate debate at the Richmond Country Club. Eight candidates from two ridings participated in discussion about the issues that matter to these constituents. The event incorporated an interactive tool, Pidgeon Hole Live, which gave everyone in attendance the opportunity to send their questions for the candidates in real time as well as show their support for or against other questions from the audience. The most popular questions were prioritized to the top of the list for candidates to answer.
While the event took a more modern approach with interactive communications technology, audience members could still show their support of certain candidates through Banners, Posters or other Promotional Products.
The second event was held on October 1 and was hosted by the Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP). The focus of this debate was financial concerns and healthcare topics.
Two additional events were held on October 5 and 7, which focused on compassion and social justice as well as disabilities. Topics in these sessions included affordable housing, healthcare, national poverty reduction strategies, Canada’s role in international development and disability acts across the country.
