Richmond area plans cover crop class

Many old agricultural techniques have seen a resurgence in recent years, and a practice that can help to ensure that a plot or patch will be productive the following year will be the focus of an upcoming Richmond workshop.

The practice of utilizing cover crops during the winter season will be explored during the Cover Crops for Nutrient-Rich Soils and Weed-Free Gardens session, which has been organized by Urban Bounty. Terra Nova Red Barn in Richmond will be the location for the class, and Grace Augustinowicz will share her knowledge with the participants.

The presentation will provide details about how cover crops can lead to better soil in the spring, as they grow for one season and are then usually plowed under to increase fertility. Attendees will discover how some options available are even edible, and also how they offer protection from plant pests. They will walk away with a better understanding of these techniques, and tickets start at $15.00.

Whether they are a home gardener, hobby farmer or small-scale grower, many people may be interested in learning new horticultural methods. A workshop like this provides a chance for them to do so, and handouts for such workshops can be prepared by area Print shops.

The Cover Crops for Nutrient-Rich Soils and Weed-Free Gardens session will be on offer on August 23rd. Everyone who Signs up is asked to be in their seat by no later than 7:00 pm.
