Maritime Festival set to return to Richmond

The residents of Richmond are gearing up for a weekend of seafaring fun when the 10th annual Maritime Festival returns to the area in August.

The free event will feature plenty of entertainment for those of all ages. It will also offer hands-on demonstrations in skills such as knot tying and rope making, along with storytelling sessions, roving street entertainers, dancers, and drummers. There will be plenty of boats to marvel at too, including the Lady Washington, which was used in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series.

Food vendors will be selling a variety of treats and local organizations such as the RCMP Drive Team, the Vancouver Aquarium, and the Sharing Farm Society will be providing information and hosting giveaways.

There will also be an attempt during the festival to break the Guinness World record for singing "Row, row, row your boat" in a relay; this will be led by David C. Jones. Visitors are also asked to donate extra clean socks to be used to make puppets and other crafts.

The festival is known for the wide range of activities it offers, making it particularly popular with families. Organizers of the event have likely been working with local printing companies to get the word out by way of Flyers and newspaper inserts.

The Festival will take place at the Britannia Shipyards from August 9 to 11. It will be open from 11:00am - 6:00pm each day and admission is free. The Guinness World record attempt will take place on August 9 from 4:00 - 6:00pm.
