Firefighters to transform holiday trees into mulch

After the winter holiday season is over and the decorations are packed up for another year, it is time to dispose of the tree, and this season, Richmond firefighters will be able to help.

The first responders will be holding a tree chip, and it offers an environmentally friendly way to dispose of Christmas trees, keeping them out of local waste disposal sites. Last year, the event raised $5000 for a variety of projects, and the organizers are hoping to spread the word and make this year's function just as big of a success.

Collections for the tree chip will be accepted in Garry Point Park, and all wires, decorations and hooks should be removed ahead of time. Each donation made for the service will be added to the Richmond Firefighters Charitable Society, which undertakes an assortment of initiatives each year.

Anyone who would like to find out more about this activity has been asked to contact the society directly. A poster printing company can be called upon to promote this sort of community service project, and these often prove to be a large part in the success of a fundraising event.

The Richmond Firefighter Annual Tree Chip will be transforming trees into mulch on January 2nd and 3rd. Everyone in the city is invited to take advantage of the offer, which will benefit both them and their neighbours alike.
